INTENSIVE COURSE ON CLINICAL SKILLS AND SIMULATION BASED LEARNING FOR PRE-GRADUATE MEDICAL STUDENTS

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Maribor is organising an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme “Intensive Course on Clinical Skills and Simulation Based Learning for Pre-Graduate Medical Students”, which will take place in Maribor, Slovenia.

This intensive clinical skills course is designed for medical students in their clinical years. The course will take place in the state-of-the-art Simulation Centre and Clinical Skills Laboratory, providing a unique hands-on learning experience in a realistic and supportive environment.

Under the guidance of experienced mentors, participants will practice essential clinical procedures, such as patient history taking, physical examination, venous and arterial blood sampling, urinary catheter placement, and the use of bedside ultrasound. The course will also strengthen students’ knowledge of interpreting lab results, including blood tests, urinalysis, ECGs, and chest X-rays.

A key part of the course focuses on managing critically ill patients. Through high-fidelity simulations, students will face urgent care scenarios and develop quick, effective response strategies vital for their future clinical practice. Each practical session will be followed by an in-depth discussion, allowing participants to analyze their performance, reflect on challenges, and explore areas for improvement.

GREEN HACKATHON – ROOT TO FORK: CUTTING THE MIDDLEMAN FOR A GREENER FUTURE

The main goal of the Green Hackathon is to organize a professional competition focused on developing entrepreneurial ideas in the field of short food supply chains. As part of the CEEPUS program, the event encourages sustainable and innovative solutions that reduce intermediaries in food distribution, aiming for a greener future.

Participants will also benefit from expert lectures delivered by professionals in entrepreneurship and innovation from Slovenia, as well as presentations of best practices and successful projects conducted at the Faculty of Logistics. These sessions will enhance students’ transferable skills and entrepreneurial knowledge.

The hackathon serves as the final event of a joint project task, which students from universities in Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, and Hungary have been working on as part of their coursework in economics and entrepreneurship. The task has been coordinated among partner universities and integrated into students’ practical sessions throughout the semester.

This international and interdisciplinary event offers a unique opportunity for students to collaborate, innovate, and contribute to sustainable food systems.

DIAGNOSTICS IN GYNAECOLOGY

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Maribor is organising an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme “Diagnostics in Gynaecology”, which will take place in Maribor, Slovenia.

This intensive programme is designed for senior medical students to develop essential clinical reasoning skills and enhance their critical thinking in various gynecological scenarios. The workshop includes both virtual and face-to-face components.

The virtual part, starting on 1 April 2025 and lasting until 30 June 2025, will focus on assessing students’ prior knowledge and fostering clinical decision-making through interactive online sessions. It will also introduce the tools and platform used during the physical part of the workshop.

The in-person sessions will be organized around key diagnostic techniques in modern gynecology, including ultrasound, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and colposcopy. Each day will combine expert lectures with hands-on clinical practice, patient interaction, and simulator-based training in small groups.

After the workshop, students’ progress will be reassessed through the online platform to evaluate the impact of the training and compare it to their initial knowledge level.

This programme offers a unique opportunity to strengthen diagnostic reasoning and practical skills in a real clinical environment.

TASTING TRAILS

The Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor is organising an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme “Tasting Trails”, which will take place in Brežice, Slovenia.

The “Tasting Trails” programme is an innovative blended learning initiative focused on cultural heritage tourism. Designed to transform students into skilled experience designers and tour guides, the program combines a comprehensive four-week online preparation phase with an intensive six-day on-site mobility in Slovenia. Participants will embark on a holistic educational journey in cultural and culinary tourism, mastering essential skills and knowledge in the field.

Virtual Preparation Phase

The online phase introduces participants to specialised modules that cover key aspects of tourism experience design.

Topics include:

  • Principles of experience design
  • Social media storytelling
  • Narrative construction
  • Tour guiding techniques
  • Sustainable tourism strategies

Over four weeks, participants will engage in two weekly two-hour sessions led by university instructors. This ensures a diverse and in-depth learning experience, blending theoretical foundations with interactive discussions.

On-Site Mobility Phase: 17 March–22 March 2025

The intensive five-day mobility in Slovenia will provide hands-on, immersive experiences.

Activities include:

  • Workshops and interactive storytelling sessions
  • Site explorations at culturally significant locations, such as Grad Brežice
  • Visits to culinary heritage sites, including the Reset Brewery
  • Development of thematic tourism routes and group project collaboration
  • Participants will actively engage with local heritage, exploring how historical and culinary traditions are integrated into tourism experiences. These experiences will culminate in practical applications of learned concepts through guided project work.
