VISA AND RESIDENCE PERMIT

SHORT-TERM VISA (type C) – up to 90 days; e.g. conference participants, summer school participants, short-term visits, exchange program up to 90 days

Who needs it?
If you are a citizen of a country outside of the Schengen Area that does not have a visa-free travel arrangement with Schengen countries and want to stay in Slovenia up to 90 days, you will need a visa.

When applying you can choose three different types of a visa (single-entry, double-entry, multiple-entry). Please choose the one that corresponds to your travel arrangements.

How can you get it?
For Schengen visa (VISA C) you need to apply at the relevant embassy in your home country or nearest country that has Slovenian embassy.
When should you arrange it?
Between 3 weeks and 3 months before arrival in Slovenia.

Which documents do you need to submit?
Application form for visa C (.doc, .pdf).

A valid passport and copy of the passport (the expiry date of which exceeds the intended period of stay in the Republic of Slovenia by at least three months).
Health insurance covering urgent health care services, at a minimum requirement, in the Republic of Slovenia:

• Coverage of at least EUR 30.000.00.
• Valid in Europe / Schengen countries.
• Includes medical emergencies, urgent care, medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.
• Valid for the entire period of the applicant’s intended stay.
• Proof of accommodation, or proof of sufficient funds to cover the applicant’s accommodation.

Sufficient means of subsistence in a monthly amount at least equal to the basic minimum income in the Republic of Slovenia (approx. EUR 465.34).
A verified police certificate indicating a clear criminal record not older than three months from your country (if the country in question issues it), translated into Slovenian and notarized.
An authentic photograph of yourself.
Two fingerprints for their digital capture.
Confirmation of the purpose of your stay, e.g. agreement with the host, acceptance letter, invitation letter and/or guarantee letter.

Information enabling an assessment of the applicant’s intention to leave the EU:

• Return ticket or a reservation.
• Proof of financial means in the country of residence.
• Proof of employment; bank statements.
• Proof of real estate ownership.
• Proof of integration into the country of residence: family ties, professional status. 

Costs

EUR 35.00 – EUR 120.00, depending on the country of your residence – please check at the relevant embassy.  

Other important information

You can enter the Republic of Slovenia and stay there for a certain period of time (for no more than three months (90 days) in a six-month period, starting on the date of the first entry) on the basis of your passport alone if you are a citizen of a country whose citizens are not required to obtain a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia.

If you have a valid residence permit issued by another country that is a party to the Schengen Agreement, you may enter the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of this permit and a valid travel document and stay there for no longer than three months in a six-month period, which includes the combined duration of your stay in all Schengen States except for the state which issued the visa, starting on the date of the first entry into one of Schengen States or until the expiry of the visa’s validity if this is shorter. Within the 90 days period, you are obliged to apply for a first residence permit at the relevant administrative unit in Slovenia.
