SYMPOSIUM: THE IMPACT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF RAILWAY FREIGHT TRANSPORT IN AN UNCERTAIN ENVIRONMENT ON THE ESTABLISHED GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGES OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES ON GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAINS
Other

Date: 14 July–19 July 2024
Organisation: Faculty of Logistics
Venue: Celje, Slovenia

For the countries of Southeastern and Central Europe, it is assumed that they have an exceptional geographical advantage for the development of logistics. Geographically, they are closest to the source of the majority of goods, which nowadays is Asia. The location of the Balkan countries is considered ideal precisely because of this. But is this really the case? In this region, there is a noticeable lack, especially compared to Northern European countries, of land transportation infrastructure, primarily railways.

The symposium titled “The Impact of the Development of Railway Freight Transport in an Uncertain Environment on the Established Geographical Advantages of Central and Eastern European Countries on Global Supply Chains” will attempt to answer the question of how significant investments in the Belt and Road Initiative will influence the transformation of trade routes within Europe as a whole.

The planned program will be as follows:

Head of the symposium

Prof. dr. Tomaž Kramberger (tomaz.kramberger@um.si)
