12TH INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS SUMMER SCHOOL “WHO KEEPS THE HOSPITAL RUNNING? SMART LOGISTICS BEHIND THE SCENES OF HEALTHCARE”
ERASMUS +BIP

On-site programme: 2 September–8 September 2025
Organisation: Faculty of Logistics
Venue: Celje, Slovenia
ECTS: 3

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED!

The Faculty of Logistics of the University of Maribor is organising an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme “Who Keeps the Hospital Running? Smart Logistics Behind the Scenes of Healthcare”, which will take place in Celje, Slovenia.

What Happens When Hospital Logistics Fails?

And how can data and simulation help keep healthcare moving smoothly?

While doctors and nurses save lives, a silent logistics system ensures that everything behind the scenes runs like clockwork—medications arrive on time, equipment is where it’s needed, and clean linens are always available. But when this system breaks down, patient care suffers.

The Faculty of Logistics at the University of Maribor invites you to the 12th International Logistics Summer School to uncover the hidden world of hospital logistics. This year’s program focuses on internal hospital supply systems and explores how data analysis, modelling, and simulation can be used to design more efficient, responsive, and resilient healthcare environments.

Program Overview

Participants will dive into a hands-on, interdisciplinary experience that includes:

  • Data Analysis and Modelling
Learn how to acquire, clean, and interpret operational data in healthcare logistics.
  • Simulation Techniques
Use discrete-event simulation to analyze internal hospital supply processes and propose data-driven improvements.
  • Hospital Logistics Workshop
Work in teams to build and test simulation models of key logistics flows (medications, laundry, equipment) in multi-location hospital settings.

Hands-On Experience

The program focuses on practical problem-solving through:

  • Simulation-building and testing
  • Data-driven decision-making
  • Analysis of real-life inefficiencies in hospital logistics
  • Solution design for internal transport systems and resource coordination

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the summer school, participants will:

  • Understand the role of supporting logistics in hospital performance
  • Gain practical experience in modelling and simulation
  • Be able to propose measurable improvements for complex logistical systems
  • Strengthening analytical and teamwork skills in a real-world context
