SUMMER SCHOOLS

Solution Design 2025 was an international Blended Intensive Programme organised by the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture at the University of Maribor. The programme combined a preparatory online phase with a two-week intensive on-site summer school in Maribor taking place from 24 August to 4 September 2025.

The virtual introductory week familiarised students with the principles of solution design and prepared them for teamwork through introductory lectures and student assignments. During the on-site phase, participants engaged in lectures, workshops, and intensive group work focused on observation, needfinding, brainstorming, and solution development. Special emphasis was placed on real-life challenges related to sustainability and urban waste management, supported by field trips to waste management facilities and urban case-study locations.

Students worked in international teams to analyse problems from a human-centred perspective and to design innovative, practical solutions. The programme integrated design thinking methods, teamwork, and reflective learning, culminating in final team presentations of developed solutions. In addition to academic activities, the programme included cultural and social events that fostered intercultural exchange and collaboration.

Solution Design 2025 successfully combined theory and practice, strengthened problem-solving and teamwork skills, and promoted interdisciplinary learning in an international environment.
