SUMMER SCHOOLS

The Summer School of Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language “Slovenščina na prvi pogled” is organized by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures in cooperation with the University of Maribor’s International Office and CMEPIUS. It has become a traditional annual event, held in late August and early September at the Faculty of Arts in Maribor, bringing together students from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, particularly from CEEPUS partner institutions, where Slovene is studied as a compulsory or elective subject.

The third edition of the summer school (25 August – 5 September 2025) hosted participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, North Macedonia, Slovakia, and Serbia. The program aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge of the Slovene language, literature, and culture, while also allowing them to experience the Slovenian way of life.

The program combined morning language classes with afternoon lectures, workshops, and conversation sessions, focusing on Slovene and Slavic studies. Additional evening activities and a study excursion to Ptuj provided informal opportunities to explore Slovenian culture, as well as the history and everyday life of Maribor and Ptuj.
