Intensive Clinical Skills Course and Simulation-Based Learning is an international Blended Intensive Programme that was coordinated by the Faculty of Medicine at University of Maribor and designed for undergraduate medical students in an integrated master’s programme. The BIP took place from 16 to 20 June 2025.
The programme combined a short virtual preparation phase with an intensive five-day on-site training period focused on emergency medicine and internal medicine. During the virtual phase, participants received preparatory learning materials, met the organising team, completed an entry assessment, and familiarised themselves with the programme structure and expectations.
The physical mobility centred on simulation-based and case-based learning. Students were introduced to key emergency pathologies and diagnostic procedures through interactive lectures, followed by hands-on practice in small groups using mannequins, clinical simulators, and bedside ultrasound equipment. Core topics included the ABCDE approach to critically ill patients, interpretation of laboratory results and imaging, and management of acute conditions such as sepsis, acute coronary syndrome, pulmonary embolism, and arrhythmias.
Working in multidisciplinary international teams, participants approached simulated cases as real clinical scenarios, strengthening their diagnostic reasoning, technical skills, and teamwork abilities. The programme successfully integrated theory with practice in realistic clinical environments and fostered new professional connections among students and staff. It also laid the groundwork for continued international cooperation and future joint educational initiatives in medical education.
