12th International Logistics Summer School – “Who Keeps the Hospital Running? Smart Logistics Behind the Scenes of Healthcare” is an international Blended Intensive Programme organised by the Faculty of Logistics at the University of Maribor, focused on applying data analysis, modelling, and simulation to healthcare logistics. The BIP took place from 2 to 8 September 2025. Combining virtual and in-person components, the program enabled students to gain hands-on experience in designing and running simulation models of hospital support processes, including the internal flow of medical equipment, medications, laundry, and other supplies.
Through lectures, workshops, and hospital visits, participants learned to collect and analyse operational data, identify inefficiencies, and propose data-driven improvements. They developed technical skills in discrete-event simulation, critical evaluation of results, and professional communication of findings. The program also fostered international collaboration, bringing together students from partner institutions in Poland, Slovakia, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Serbia.
By connecting theory with real-world challenges, the Summer School equipped students with analytical and problem-solving skills directly applicable in healthcare and broader logistics contexts, while strengthening teamwork, cross-cultural cooperation, and practical decision-making abilities.
